Avoid this one. The reviews went on and on about how good it was but it simply rehashes what everyone else has written. It's greatest flaw is the author decribes all the things that happened with Custer's fight as though it was fact. The problem is no one who was there lived to tell the tale. A few other writers, Philbrick, Connell and Ambrose do what an honest historians do in lieu of facts, they guess what happened based on all of the evidence. Amrose's conjecture rings the most plausible. This account also takes the politically correct liberal view of the Last Stand which has been beaten to death by biased writers over and over again. The story itself is fascinating and doesn't need social condemnation by modern leftists out to right some imagined historical wrong. Stick to the best ones. They are Son Of The Morning Star by Connell, Crazy Horse And Custer by Stephen E. Ambrose and the best one The Last Stand by Nathaniel Philbrick.Avoid this one. Most Grassy Knollists don't know the origin of the paranoid conspiracy theories. An East German Communist, very likely a KGB operative, first formed the CIA/Pentagon/U.S. government plots to kill Kennedy. His motivation was deflecting the obvious suspicion away from the Soviets and Cuban communists. Don't bother with that drivel. It's endless. Kennedy got killed because of a series of strange events happening that ended up with Ozwald sitting in a perfect sniper spot on Kennedy's route through Dallas. When you read this great book, you will find it horrifying to hear from a man who watched as Ozwald pulled the trigger on the shot that blew the presidents head off. It's sickening, and depressing. But it could have been prevented. Once again bureaucrats and an inept FBI fell down on the job. Don't waste your time on absurd theories of what happened. No tin foil hat guy living in his mom's basement has any "secret" information. Most Grassy Knollists don't know the origin of the paranoid conspiracy theories. Peter Cook's influence on British comedy and therefore it's eventual influence on American comedy was profound. He was truly a pioneer of the art and his story is bittersweet when you realize what could have been if not for the hurtles of alcoholism and celebrity's fickle fate that sabotaged the man's life. Orwell was warning the left about the realities of socialism. Having served in the Spanish Civil War, he had an unaltered view of socialist revolutions that should have sent off alarms in the leftist community. Unfortunately, liberals chose to swallow the party line offered up by leftist propaganda. This lead to Stalin embracing Nazi Germany and the unbelievable marriage of leftist socialists and Hitlerian horror. There are some liberals today who unfortunately think Orwell was writing about the fear of right wing tyranny rather than the left. He had a first hand look at socialist realities and the left shunned him. A mark the left can never erase.Orwell was warning the left about the realities of socialism. The book starts out well and then devolves into a polemic that washes the media' hands of any responsibility for the outcome of the Vietnam conflict. The start of the book shows the media reported the US government's party line about the war at the beginning of the conflict and therefore the public was in the dark about the reality of the war. So the media dropped the ball over and over again, yet is somehow blameless. A curious conclusion. At the end of the book, the author tells of an American camera crew filming a young Vietnamese with a rifle about to shoot a marine at the US embassy compound during the fall of Saigon. If the marines hadn't noticed it in time the American camera crew would have filmed it rather than intervene. Yet the author tells the story dispassionately. I, for one, was appalled! The book starts out well and then devolves into a polemic that washes the media' hands of any responsibility for the outcome of the Vietnam conflict.
