When a Cambridge student dramatically attempts to take her own life, DI Mark Joesbury realizes that the university has developed an unhealthy record of young people committing suicide in extraordinary ways. Against huge personal misgivings, Joesbury sends young policewoman DC Lacey Flint to Cambridge, with a brief to work under-cover, posing as a depression-prone, vulnerable student. Psychiatrist Evi Oliver is the only person in Cambridge who knows who Lacey really is-- or so they both hope. But as the two women dig deeper into the darker side of university life, they discover a terrifying trend. And when Lacey starts experiencing the same disturbing nightmares reported by the dead girls, she knows that she is next.

Wow. I was impressed with the first book in the Lacey Flint series, but this one--yeesh. Again, the story begins at the height of drama (this time, literally). And as Bolton winds you through the story, back and forth in time, she keeps your heart in your throat wondering what more could possibly go wrong (because it does!). This dark series is not for the faint of heart, but the writing is so good it might be worth trying if it's not your typical style. Trigger Warning: suicide and violence against women is front and center, but though it may be explicit at times it's not gratuitous and the tone is always to fight against it.

There are thrillers and then there are Sharon Bolter thrillers. This book was amazing, scary and very hard to put down.

I liked this book ... other than all of the bouncing around in time! "Fifteen years earlier", "Three days earlier", "Five years earlier", on and on and ON! Definitely one of my pet peeves.

I am pleased to have discovered this author. Every book I have read of hers so far has been a page-turner. I don't spend a lot of time on the plausibility factor, just happy to have a suspenseful book to take me away from some of the day to day. Thumbs' up on this 2nd Lacey Flint novel.

A continuation of "Now You See Me" about police officer Lacey Flint. Second in the series. Off the deep end again about half way through. Great storyteller, crazy plots! Bolton's novels are hard to put down. But at the end it seems so unlikely. Even silly. This time a Dr. Bell, the local GP, keeps a whole flock of trained peregrine falcons in his garage to feed himself and friends fresh-killed game. Actually, it's a "cast" of falcons. You know: "gaggle" of geese, "murder" of crows, "raft" of loons, .....

Another good book in the series. Lacey goes undercover and finds herself a target of a bizarre and intricate plot to cause her to commit suicide. Mark Joesbury is back and Evi Oliver from Blood Harvest is a central character. A real page-turner. Only one thing bothered me. Surely a cop would NEVER be sent undercover, into a dangerous situation, without being fully briefed. A plot device but a head-scratcher.

Read them out of order, this being the last, and the best of a very fine lot. Already feeling Bolton Withdrawl, and hope SJ will bless us with another very soon.

It's official: I won't be able to stop until I blow through this whole series. I really like Sharon Bolton's writing, the creativity of her stories and the Lacey Flint and Mark Joesbury characters. On to book #3.
