I was really looking forward to seeing this movie.
I thought it would be whimsical and charming. It was vulgar and crass.
I turned it off after 20 minutes or so, and it was a push to get that far. I kept thinking it would get better.
It got worse.
Big disappointment.

Rated 2/10. I was under the impression that this was supposed to be a comedy. Rather, it's just a silly and bizarre movie.

This complete waste of time is valuable only as a sleep aid. Only someone as stupid as a liberal would like it. It is pretentious, foolish, but most of all boring--fodder for libs.

I really loved the movie, very funny. Never thought I would have liked it but gave it a try.

A delightful movie. I am (almost) ashamed to say that I did not watch it all the way through at first and had a largely indifferent opinion toward it for some time. But after viewing it again --
ahem, to the end, this time -- I was really quite amazed at its cleverness, ingenuity, and attention to detail. It's extremely funny and very engaging. Indeed I re-watched it immediately . In the scene in which M. Gustave is pushing the mush cart through the prison, does he cross in front of, and, uncharacteristically, ignore completely, a cell in which he himself is sitting?

Soundtrack was amazing!

I haven't had much luck with Wes Anderson films in the past so wasn't expecting too much from this but it was great. An over the top caper, to be sure, but a beautifully presented, sentimental joy nonetheless. I expected the "wacky hijinks" to turn me off but luckily Ralph Fiennes is charm personified. Thoroughly enjoyable.

Kind of quirky, but I thought it was a good film. Not for everyone though.

when I started watch that movie, I was very excited and hopeful to see something fresh and creative , so there is why I gave that movie mercifully 2 stars , not one
I think director is a big con because he has no talent nor imagination to make a really interesting story so after a good beginning movie turns to be eccentric, boring done by typical untalented Hollywood director, who try to hide that has nothing to say. Seriously. And of course critics loved it.

Stylish wacky fairy tale. Not as silly as I expected.

Moustafa on Gus:
--There are still faint glimmers of civilization left in this barbaric slaughterhouse that was once known as humanity... He was one of them. What more is there to say?
--To be frank, I think his world had vanished long before he ever entered it - but, I will say: he certainly sustained the illusion with a marvelous grace!

Gus: I must say, I find that girl utterly delightful. Flat as a board, enormous birthmark the shape of Mexico over half her face, sweating for hours on end in that sweltering kitchen (in the bakery), while Mendl, ...
