Sky and River have always lived on Island, the only world they've ever known. Until the day River spots a boat. Across Ocean, in a place called California, Sky is separated from River and forced to live with a grandmother she's just met. Here the rules for survival are different. People rely on strange things like cars and cell phones. They keep secrets from one another. And without River, nothing makes sense. Sky yearns for her old life where she was strong and capable, not lost and confused. She must find River so they can return to Island, but the truth behind how they ended up there in the first place will come as the biggest shock of all.

This book was really quite different from all other books I've ever read. For one, it's really strange but cool to see how a person kind of "starts living again" in a completely different atmosphere. How on Island Sky and River, had everything, then when they came to California it was like starting over in life. Sky had to learn Everything. from Toe to plane. It was also quite funny of her reactions to all the things that surrounded her or things she had to use for living and such. The author kinda puts us thinking "huh, how strange that we as people stare at a television box of fake people" Or, "Maybe our oceans aren't that swell after all than the warm Island Ocean" Or even "What's a gun?..What's evil? Why do people need money?... Well just random things like that could really get us thinking. This type of book was something unique in a way. River and Sky had this unique, deep, kind, truthful and sweet kind of love that makes us all want to experience that. In many ways, this book gave you this comfort, made you laugh and question many things about life. It was great.
