This double-CD collection includes only modern recordings. Not all the songs are from the period of the film, as it includes some covers of Dylan songs written later. The single disc "Inside Llewyn Davis," which is the actual soundtrack to the film, is IMO a better collection, only partly because it contains two songs actually contemporaneous with the period of the film. While the recording process today is vastly superior to that of the time, I would have preferred the original versions of the songs by those artists who drew the world's attention to Washington Square.
KCLS patrons have already reviewed this as an outstanding album. A 2 cd masterpiece by artists that are not big names in the music business. What they have is talent and original material. An unbeatable combination!
Great movie. Great set of songs. Some better than others, but still worthwhile to listen to.
Prefer studio over live recording, hence the lower rating than otherwise.
Completely enjoyed this recording. Coincidentally, Gillian Welch attended UC Santa Cruz. Wonderful to hear traditional folksongs in new ways and new folk music moving beyond. Her musical partner David Rawlings is an amazing guitarist.
Absolutely stunning set of tunes from a host of the best artists out there right now!
I have the 3 LP vinyl set and it looks like there are even a few extra tracks on here that they couldn't fit on there!
Also look for the showtime documentary they did on this concert of the same name!
This concert is worth sitting down and listening to all the way through! Even though it takes a couple hours to listen to it all, it is a very interesting look (listen) into folk music from another day and another time.
