The first book in the Fabian Risk series, Victim Without a Face is a chilling novel about the ultimate revenge.
Criminal investigator Fabian Risk has left Stockholm with his wife, Sonja, and their two children to start fresh in his hometown of Helsingborg. He has planned a six-week vacation before he starts a new job at the Homicide Department. But after only a few hours in their new home, he is asked to investigate a brutal murder. The body of J#65533;rgen P#65533;lsson, one of Risk's former classmates, has been found with both hands missing. Soon the bodies of more old classmates are found, and Risk finds himself in a race against time: Can they find the murderer before the entire class is killed?

Add a CommentSwedish/Danish police procedural serial killer. Interesting but way too complicated.
I do enjoy Nordic Noir and read several authors. This author is new to me.
I did enjoy the story. I won't give anything away....but I also just finished reading the 2nd book in the series "The Ninth Grave". Not sure why the author wrote this way, but I think 9th Grave should be the first in the series and Victim without a Face should be 2nd in the series.
I found I was confused at the beginning trying to figure out why the characters seemed to be a step back in time.
Looking forward to book #3.
LONG and disappointing. This book needs editing, as much of it is slow or repetitive - how many times can the author end a chapter with one of the cops saying or thinking "we don't know what to do next"??? There are loose threads that are never tied up (two examples: Risk's maybe-lover and his former employment in Copenhagen), descriptions of scenery or interiors that don't make sense or aren't illuminating, and the main character is boring and predictable.
If this is the first in a series of Fabian Risk novels, count me out for the rest.
