What happens when overworked manor staff win the U.K. national lottery? Film is enjoyable for well-drawn characters, dry humor, and a sympathetic portrayal of class lines redrawn and crossed. Strong female actors lead in the syndicate's twists and turns, along with an enigmatic Scotsman and a lottery-obsessed gardener who doesn't let apparent Asperger's slow him down. The elderly lord struggles to pay the bills, hold on to the family estate, and figure out if there's a thief selling his valuable artwork. There are delightful baddies: the ne'er do well stepson, a pampered wife whose idea of work is selecting which strand of pearls to wear, and the self-centered, clothing-challenged teenager who'll do anything to achieve her dream of being a model. The plot is unoriginal in how the natives view the visiting Americans, who are of course awestruck by titles, very rich, loud, and patronizing. Set in the pretty seaside town of Scarborough.

I Loved this series --- it was So much Fun !! Like Downton Abbey set in current times. Great characters !! A very old castle, in need of lots of repairs & updates, is the stage. The Lord & his second wife & step son live there, with only five staff (cook; house manager, gardener, housekeeper & Land manager. The Staff (they call themselves the Syndicate) has been buying lottery tickets every week & then they hit the jackpot & Win $40+ Million pounds (about $60,000 in U.S. currency). There is a lot of drama and events that now take place --- with the roles being reversed. There are only six episodes on this DVD -- - wish there were more !!

Enjoyed Season One of this series quite a bit. This season seemed to contain cardboard characters although slight twist in end.

What a fun find. Just go with it and you too will be addicted to all of the episodes -- and even want more. Apparently, each season is a new cast with the lottery premise. The core actors are terrific, the actor who portrays Godfrey was a standout for me. He brings a subtle sweetness and intelligence to the character, loved how he deftly delivered humorous lines. Overall a delight. BORROW!

This is a brilliant watch! Each season follows the lives of different lottery winners; this is season 3. You can watch any season out of order. This series is a little bit Upstairs Downstairs with some Downton Abbey and a good dash of the Street combined to create great entertainment. It is a romance/ suspense drama full of surprises; visually beautiful and highly addictive.

there we’re so many loose ends to this delightful story, but I can’t find a season 2. Was it called something else?
