Confusing and just not worth watching!

Horribly disappointing. Removing the spectacular special effects would reveal a shallow and confusing story.

I still love Newt, he's such a rare type of character (the social issues and the kindness and the lack of doing things just for male ego sake) but I wish he'd had more screen time and the story had been better written and stuff with his friend's and love interest had been better written.
Also they could've reduced the villain's screen time by at least half....way too much. Actor is a problematic person too....but it would've been too much screen time for the villain and his ideas either way...
Plot wise: felt like everything was falling apart (and some of the things from the last movie were just reset and I was like wait, what?), there wasn't enough character development on the new characters to make me feel for them, some of the storylines were really problematic (nagini and lestrange family?) and I just felt like I was better off before seeing it....the last movie at least ended on an optimistic note...
But the new magic-animals were lovely and the effects were good.
The world needs more Newts!

Did not think much of this movie at all.

I didn't expect too much from this movie: the first movie was boring and there are a lot of negative reviews for this one. The movie is darker and less fun than the first one. It paves the way to a third movie. CGI is awesome and plot is quite dense.

1.5/5 stars. Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald is a 2018 fantasy film set in the now expansive Wizarding World Franchise, which was started with the Harry Potter films. It is the sequel to 2016’s Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Both films were written by J.K Rowling and directed by David Yates. Visually the film is what you would expect from a high budget blockbuster, but it is nothing boundary pushing or special. The acting is decent and believable. That is where the semi-positive things I can write about this film end. It makes me sad to say this as a big fan of Harry Potter, but this film is pretty terrible. While some of the previous new Wizarding World media was questionable, such as Harry Potter and The Cursed Child or the original fantastic beasts, this movie is actually bad. This movie has so many boring expositive scenes, new characters that we don’t care about, and a very contrived and non-compelling plot. This film should not have been made as a sequel, rather an anthology series. Having to give the characters from the last movie something to do in this new film makes it drag along and not make much sense. Overall, I would not recommend watching this movie. @Joaquin of the Teen Review Board at the Hamilton Public Library

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald is the long awaited sequel to 2016's Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Being a fan of the first instalment, this film did not disappoint. Following many different storylines, this movie has a much darker feel than the bright world building of the first. Eddie Redmayne is back as the famous magizoologist Newt Scamander. Though he may not have as large a role in this film, his scenes are welcomed and comforting in comparison to the film's grim mood. Jude Law as Albus Dumbledore gives us an insight into the mysterious wizard's history and relationship with Gellert Grindelwald, played by Johnny Depp. Grindelwald acts as a great villain, persuasive and alluring, yet mysterious or even violent. Every character in the film shows some form of character development, which will inevitably be important later. Surprisingly, my favourite character storyline was Leta Lestrange's, being mysterious and filled with twists and secrets. The ending was definitely a surprise and leaves many questions as to where the rest of the series will go. I'd definitely recommend this film, though don't expect the same happy tone of the Potter films or even the first installment. 4.5 Stars. @Ruby_Tuesday of the Hamilton Public Library Teen Review Board

"Overall, I wanted to like this movie because I love Harry Potter and the Wizarding World. But I think this one is such a disappointment that I was upset when it was over..."

I heard VERY bad things about this movie, but TH wanted to watch it, so we did. (remember, marriage is THE great compromise, LOL). It wasn't as bad as I thought, I even suggested a second viewing because I wanted to make sure I got my facts straight.

I was unsurprised by who "turned" thought it was a duh huh move which was telegraphed from the beginning of the movie. I would still like to see Newt stand up straight and look people in the eye; honestly all that cowering is unbecoming (and unwarranted as we learn).

If you're a Potter fan, I'd encourage you to check this out to judge for yourself!

Hmmm... There were parts of this I liked and parts of this I most definitely did not like. I can see why fans would be divided, as it's a very divisive movie. Though I was happy to see a lot of my favorite characters again they were enveloped in a less than tidy plot, controversial casting and character developments that didn't make a whole lot of sense. Some good ideas here but the delivery, not so much.

We were a somewhat confused in the beginning and assumed this may be because we haven't yet watched the "Harry Potter" series, but are glad we stuck it out until the end where it all made more sense. In fact, if we weren't already late returning the DVD, we would have watched it again. The graphics were just as beautiful as in the 1st of the series. We can hardly wait for the 3rd one, which unfortunately isn't coming out until Nov, 2020. That seems just too long. We want to know what happens next.
