"DI Hazel Micallef is still recovering from back surgery when a report comes in that a body has been found in a nearby lake. But DC Wingate says the whole thing is too eerie. The first installment of a story has just been published in the local paper: a passage that describes in detail just such a discovery. Real life is far too close to fiction for coincidence. A stunning and suspenseful exploration of the obsessive far reaches of love."--Publisher.

My second by this pseudonymous author and even better than the first. Pretty much a straightforward detective story, set in very rural Ontario, but extremely well-written and character-driven. The main character, an over middle-aged female police chief, is very compelling and interesting. I hope there are more coming.

Another well-scripted book by Wolfe. There is suspense, with many clues leading nowhere. Hazel takes this case all the way to its ultimate surprising conclusion. You just have to love Hazel's character! Thanks to another reviewer I know the author behind Wolfe.

there are other books by Michael Redhill available at the library though you will find they are different from the Hazel Micallef series.

Cullenju [below] has said it well. A great summer read and I look forward to more books by this author.

Love the Muskoka setting. The books are rather a combination of a serious Corner Gas and Criminal Minds. The characters are very well developed. My only complaint is that I'm not sure the policing is accurate...

one of the finest reads I have had this summer. This author was new to me and I had the pleasure of reading her books back to back. Her main character Hazel is a strong independent woman of a certain age, she has a bad back struggles with weight and isn't tall blond and perfect, thank goodness and how refreshing. Read these books your going to love Hazel and her crew

I really like this anti-hero, Hazel Micallef, who in this story outsmarts the Toronto cops to solve the crime. She is a very believable heroine, with just the right edge for a detective.

Lots of action/suspense scenes which the author does a good job of writing along with puzzles and clues. Satisfying conclusion.
