Provides an engaging and inspiring look at public education in the United States. This documentary has helped launch a movement to achieve a real and lasting change through the compelling stories of five unforgettable students such as Emily, a Silicon Valley eighth-grader who is afraid of being labeled as unfit for college, and Francisco, a Bronx first-grader whose mom will do anything to give him a shot at a better life.

Like all others whose real agenda is the privatization of the schools (in lockstep with the privatization, or corporatization of everything in America) this guy's got the religion, but it isn't one I'd like to worship in. A predatory capitalist educational system is as exactly as one would expect existing in a predatory capitalist pseudo-economy. Now, the obvious remedy would be the nationalization of the school systems in America and a meritocratic system put in place, emphasizing real education and educational achievement, with critical thinking skills, which just might prove mighty dangerous to the elites which rule. TFA, or Teach For America, is a Wall Street supported and financed movement to destroy one of the few remaining public unions, teachers' unions, and hasten the privatization of education.

when i watch and after finished watching this movie, it just still holds the same knowledge that we should all know as before --- life is competitive, so does the chance of getting a proper or even better education.

For some, this documentary might be an eye-opener. Having gone through the public school system, this is old news for me. Nonetheless, I thought the film did a good job at showing the bureaucracy that impedes change and does not have children’s best interest in mind.

An honest look at the state of the education system in America.

This film is one of very few that I have seen that even begin to properly touch on the true state of poverty and education in America. This is a world that most suburbanites aren't even aware of let alone could begin to understand without some pretty intense sociological background. While this film is by no means a masterpiece it mostly succeeds in its mission of relaying the story of these kids and how far off of the mark public education has fallen in this country.

Sad commentary on our priorities for the next generation. Without education, youth have no future. Political infighting will bring everything to ruin.

This documentary was an interesting look into the American public school system, focusing mostly on inner-city/low-income schools. It's very sad to see how the cycle of poverty continues in many of these schools when children do not receive the education they deserve.

documentary-interesting from many aspects however so hard to really hit on all the issues as the programs change from community to county to state across the country. The one's they depicted almost soundls like throwing money out the window in hopes that some will blow back in and that's a success.

Bottom line there are some serious flaws in the general publics educational system. Opinion, offer an opportunity which pertains to repeating the same information over again each year, great benefits, retirement and 60-120 days off a year not including holiday's and you're bound to attract some dead weight, part of another problems within the problem.
