The secrets of history's most enduring mystery are finally revealed in The Lost Empire of Atlantis. Through impeccable research and intelligent speculation, Gavin Menzies, the New York Times bestselling author of 1421, uncovers the truth behind the mysterious "lost" city of Atlantis--making the startling claim that the "Atlanteans" discovered America 4,000 years ago and ruled a vast Mediterranean empire that was violently destroyed in 1,500 BC. Forget everything you've ever thought about the Atlantis legend--Gavin Menzies will make you a believer!

Found this book fascinating. I would have liked to see more photos and maps. Otherwise, a must read for those interested in such subjects.

I go back and forth on this book.

One thesis is that the Minoans are the Atlanteans of legend. I don't necessarily disagree with this.

However, the other thesis is that they maintained a trading empire that spanned the globe from Santorini/Thera to the British Isles to the Duluth area on Lake Superior.

I feel that most of the academic underpinning of the second thesis is of the " stands to reason..." kind and I just don't find it convincing.
