Koontz puts a singular twist on Frankenstein, the classic tale of ambition and science gone wrong, and develops a new story of the line that separates humanity from inhumanity. Victor Leben, once Frankenstein, has not only seen the future, he's ready to populate it. Using stem cells, organic silicon circuitry, and nanotechnology, he will engender a race of superhumans. Now, it is up to five individuals to stop him and save humanity.

The scene shifts to rural Montana in this fourth of Koontz's Frankenstein series, an unlikely place for the story to take place. Former characters are re-introduced in different capacities, it seems to fit well, how the series ends will be the determining factor.
