A patron review from the Adult Summer Reading Game: Jennifer Gilmore has crafted a book that captures the heartache of wanting a child and the obstacles one couple endures to become parents. Faced with infertility and years of medical interventions, Jesse and Ramon embark on their final option - open adoption. "The Mothers" paints a realistic view of the sorrows and dreams of one's desires, the searing hopes and emotional rollercoaster ride to become what seems like a simple thing - a mother. Having gone through my own rollercoaster to become a mother, this novel reminded me of my brief heartache but more importantly, reminded me that I was one of the lucky ones...and became a mother.
