"Pilot Episode", episode 1, introduces Morse to alcohol. The young man who said to everyone that "I don't drink" easily takes up what becomes his habit. Another glaring drawback to being Morse is his utter inability to land a girlfriend. What girl want to take up with someone smarter than she is and is more comfortable being separated from people than he is in being with people? "Girl", episode 2, has Morse solving the case but at the expense of alienation of the hierarchy. No one wants Morse looking in their direction and they will do anything t get rid of him. "Fugue", episode 3, shoves opera down our throats. I don't care to see a lonely person sitting with drink in hand listening to his records. Morse is not ever going to become friends with people because he doesn't know how. You just respect his intelligence but not his inability to make people want his company. Morse needs a makeover. "Rochet", episode 4, puts the young but coming Morse up against not jut his own hierarchy in the police but gives him a taste of just how dominating moneyed and positioned people are. Nut Morse is smart and gets his man. But he doesn't seem able to get his woman and probably never will."Home", episode 5, tries to launch young Morse unto his habitual use if alcohol and his limp. But this young Morse is a crack shot with the pistol and doesn't seem likely to be put off by body parts or blood like the older Morse exhibited. Still the acting the good.
