Well, at least it looks good. The desert scenes are terrific and some of the acting is very good (Masterpiece Theatre fans will recognize several actors), but the whole thing doesn't add up to a whole lot. Too much emphasis on Gertrude Bell's romantic entanglements and not enough on her role in Middle Eastern politics and her impact on historical events that lingers today. I hear there is a very good documentary on G.B coming out later this year and hope it's available from the library. I think I will enjoy that more than this film (did I mention the desert scenes are spectacular?!).
