Cornwell does it again. A rip-roaring yarn of the 10th century. Our hero is an "ancient of days," but still acquits himself well in a battle. What is fascinating is the way he outwits his enemies. He is a great strategist, and his insights into the mercenary nature of the Christian church and most of its members are delightful.
