If this is representative of her work I won't be reading any more Iris Johansen novels. Poorly written, repetative, convoluted, boring dialouge and the antagonist is not an empathetic character, although she claims herself to be. I think we're supposed to feel that Margaret has been wronged and has had a tough life but she just comes off as a petualnt, whiny brat. Ms. Johansen needs to purchase a Thesaurus. How many times can you use the word drily? I finished reading the Green Mile by S. King and the library web site recommended this due to my choice of the Green Mile. What these two books have in common is beyond me, other than a charater in TGM claims a mouse whispered in his ear and Margaret is a more boring version of Doctor Dolittle. What I find odd about the description of the book is that it is called suspensul and a high octane thriller. The story isn't bad, the writing is.
