This was Georgette Heyer's first Regency romance and it's easy to tell. There's a ton of description in this book, almost too much at points (I skimmed the Royal Pavilion section a lot). However, it made me like the book even more because it felt so real. Everything the characters did was spot on for the time period, such as the various parties and balls, going somewhere for Christmas, going to Brighton in the spring, etc. Peregrine is kind of young and annoying, but Judith is a great character. I wish the romance had been developed a little bit more. We only get a few pages at the end where they admit they like each other. It's not my favourite Georgette Heyer novel, but definitely recommended if you like historical fiction that takes place around the same time as Jane Austen's novels.
