An eloquently-written narrative that maps out Braithwaite's time as a teacher at Greenslade School in London's East End! Unapologetic in his descriptions, Braithwaite reveals some very ugly truths about his surroundings, his students, and the (abhorrent) treatment he receives due to the color of his skin. Despite the initial repulsiveness of this teaching appointment, Braithwaite engages in an unorthodox teaching method that might very well save his students' lives. This novel covers subject matter that is still relevant today and is way better than the film.
