The tombstone reads "Here lies a good Indian". Officer Jim Chee of the Navajo Tribal Police is not particularly amused, especially since this tombstone marks a grave on private property. Traditionally, Navajos are not buried -- and certainly not in a white man's yard. But that's not what Chee is here to investigate. He's responding to a report of burglary. While the woman of the house can tell Chee that their safe was broken into, she has no idea what was stolen. Finding the burglar just in time to see him shot, brings up a more questions about the safe's missing contents, and their history. Truly enjoyed the book. Will read all of the Jim Chee/Joe Leaphorn mysteries by Tony Hillerman.
