I have watched 3 different movie versions of this book (including the Shirley Temple version), so it was about time I read this classic novel. I can see why it is a beloved story, especially for little girls! The prose is delightful and captures the era perfectly, Sara is an intriguing and thoughtful character, and the story is charming and sweet. Sara is such a good example for young girls; she's kind, thoughtful, patient, ready to learn...the list goes on. What I probably loved the most about her was that even when others treated her unfairly or unkindly (specifically Miss Minchin), she did not snap or lose her temper. But she drove them mad or made them dumbstruck by her patient humility and wisdom. I loved that. It was also wonderful to see how Sarah touched the lives of many, many people. A delightful read. An absolute classic.
